Lakshmi Swamy, MD, PhD

Dr. Swamy is a board-certified ophthalmologist with dual specialties in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus (eye alignment). She completed her residency at the Duke University Eye Center, where she trained in eye surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology for patients of all ages. She continued with additional fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic at Oregon Health and Science University. The additional training focused on the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of all eye conditions affecting children. Dr. Swamy provides both non-surgical and surgical correction of eye misalignment (strabismus) and double vision for all ages, including adults.

Dr. Swamy grew up in rural Georgia and graduated from the Foundation Fellowship Scholarship Program at the University of Georgia. She received her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. She also completed her Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD), from Cornell University, with her research on malaria genetics. At Duke University, her project on malaria and children’s eyes earned her the Robert Machemer Resident Research Award.

Dr. Swamy’s professional interest is patient education and staff and physician training. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son, exploring the outdoors in western North Carolina, and meeting people in the community. She enjoys serving a large geographic area at the Asheville, Hendersonville, and Sylva locations. She is currently accepting patients at all locations and works with a wide range of insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare.
