Dr. Peters is a board certified anterior segment and cornea specialist whose emphasis in research and education helps her provide quality patient care while making advances in the field. She is dedicated to establishing trust with her patients to provide compassionate care.

A native of east Tennessee, Dr. Peters attended Vanderbilt University, graduating with highest honors as well as magna cum laude, with her Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and minors in biology and Spanish. She then studied at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine under the Doris M. and Fred W. Love Scholarship, a merit-based, full-tuition award. After graduation, Dr. Peters spent a transitional year as an intern near her home at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before entering her residency at Duke Eye Center. As an ophthalmology resident, she received multiple awards for her research and was selected by the faculty to lead the residency as one of two Chief Residents. In her leadership role, she is proud to have taught and mentored the junior residents both clinically and surgically, as she has a passion for teaching. A credit to her mentoring ability, she received the Golden Apple Award, chosen by Duke medical students for the best resident teacher of her year. Finally, she served as the clinical and surgical Anterior Segment fellow at Vance Thompson Vision, learning under world-renowned mentors in cataract, cornea, glaucoma, and refractive surgery. She also has a passion for research, as throughout her career, she has had numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts published and has given many podium and poster presentations.

Dr. Peters says she owes everything to her supportive parents, who immigrated from Peru just before she was born, an inspiration she takes with her into her career and a move that allowed her and all of her siblings to become physicians. When she’s not educating or performing surgery, Dr. Peters is dancing. Her passion for Latin dances like salsa, bachata, and merengue led her to her husband, Sam. Together, they have a beautiful daughter, Violet, and a cat, Peaches.
